Central Mountain Air is a Canadian regional airline based in Smithers, British Columbia. It operates scheduled and charter services and trans-border services. Its main base is Smithers Airport, with other bases at Calgary International Airport, Vancouver International Airport and Prince George Airport. The airline was established and started operations in 1987. In late 2005 the first of aircrafts were delivered to the airline, for use on chartered and scheduled flights.
In March 2010, the parent company of Central Mountain Air, purchased fellow British Columbia-based airline Hawkair. On November 18, 2016, Hawkair declared bankruptcy, had all assets seized for liquidation, and permanently suspended operations. Central Mountain Air is the sister company of Northern Thunderbird Air, which operates charter and cargo services from Prince George.
Central Mountain Air has a different baggage policy for carry-on and checked baggage policy.
You may carry onboard items which fall within the 2 piece carry-on/skycheck allowance: one (1) carry-on bag or suitcase (wheels and handles included in the size) and one (1) personal article like a briefcase, laptop computer, diaper bag, camera case, cartons or other similar item. Both items must not be more than 10kg.
A Checked Bag is defined as a single item with a maximum weight of 23kg (50lb.), and with a maximum linear dimension of 158 cm (62in.) Linear dimensions are calculated by adding together the bag’s greatest outside height, width and length – wheels and handles included.
Economy Class is the only cabin class offered by the airline and gives a relaxed but no-frills service.
The airline only operates short domestic flights within Canada, therefore, there's not any food and drink offered on board nor any in-flight entertainment.
This airline only has one standard class service on its planes — Economy Class. The service will slightly depend on what aircraft you are flying in. For example, in the Beech 1900D, passengers will be seated in a 1-1 formation, providing executive seating on comfortable seats that are well spaced out. On the Dornier 328, the seats are arranged in a 1-2 formation, giving some passengers a lot more room and legroom than others. And, finally, on the DASH 8-100 which holds the most amount of passengers (37), seats are arranged in a 2-2 formation.
Central Mountain Air passengers must check in at the airport since the airline doesn't offer online check in.
Passengers should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their flight's departure. The deadline for check-in is 45 minutes. The boarding gates will close 20 minutes before scheduled flight departure.
