Air Canada Rouge is Canada's leisure airline, serving predominantly leisure markets within Canada. The airline operates to/from a number of domestic destinations within Canada, key cities within the US, and a number of key cities within Europe. Destinations in Europe include Manchester, Edinburgh, Venice, Athens, Lisbon, Dublin, Nice, Barcelona, Budapest, and Warsaw. Destinations in the Caribbean include Cuba, Jamaica, Curaçao, Haiti, the Bahamas, Grenada, Barbados, St. Maarten, and the Dominican Republic.
The airline was launched in December 2012 and began services on July 1, 2013. The airline is part of the Air Canada Leisure Group. All Air Canada Rouge flights are operated with narrow-body Airbus aircraft, offering high-speed Wi-Fi (available for purchase) and a wide choice of Economy and Premium Rouge services.
November 2021 Update: In February 2021, Air Canada Rouge announced that it would be temporarily suspending operations. This was due to a reduction in demand as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the airline resumed flying early September 2021, and is gradually reintroducing more routes.

As a standard Air Canada Rouge passengers are allowed to bring 1 piece of hand luggage + 1 personal item.
Regardless of destination, passengers can bring 1 standard piece of hand luggage + 1 personal item. The standard piece must measure 55cm by 23 cm by 40 cm, including wheels/handlers, and must be light enough to store in the overhead bin without assistance. The personal item, measuring 33cm by 16cm by 43cm, must fit under the seat in front of you.
Checked baggage allowance will depend on a number of factors, including fare type and route, and will be confirmed during the Alternative Airlines booking process. Additional bags can be added to your booking if required.
Bags that exceed allowance (in number, size and/or weight) will be subject to additional checked baggage charges.
Air Canada Rouge officially has 2 cabin classes — Economy Class and Premium Class.
Entertainment: There is no personal entertainment system. However, passengers can stream the best new releases and top TV shows onto their tablet, smartphone or laptop.
New to 2021: The airline has launched an upgraded streaming entertainment system. Economy passengers no longer need to use an app to stream content, but can now stream hours of television and movies available on a complimentary basis directly to their own personal digital devices.
Economy provides advanced aircraft seating technology with adjustable headrests. Passengers can also pre-book a seat with extra legroom for added comfort.
New to 2021: Air Canada has launched nine new Airbus A321 aircraft, which feature a new contemporary interior design, configured with leather seats and 30-inch seat pitch in the Economy cabin. The new A321 aircraft also offer upgraded personal power options, including USB-C ports and a personal electronic device holder integrated into the back of each seat.
Air Canada Rouge offers two class options, Economy or Premium. Its premium offering is called Premium Rouge.
Before boarding, breeze through the airport with priority check-in and boarding. Premium Rouge passengers are also entitled to extra baggage allowance. On eligible flights, passengers can relax in the Maple Leaf Lounge, at available airports.
Passengers travelling in the Premium Rouge cabin will be offered a complimentary bar and beverage service. Meals are complimentary on flights over two hours, or a snack is served on flights of shorter duration.
Entertainment: Onboard, Premium Rouge passengers can enjoy Hollywood new releases on a complimentary iPad.
Premium Rouge is in an exclusive cabin, with wider seats and more space to stretch.
Air Canada Rouge offers complimentary entertainment when you connect to its WIFI network. Its entertainment service offers a range of TV shows and films that you can stream on any WIFI enabled personal devices, such as your phone, laptop or mobile. Air Canada Rouge entertainment ranges from brand new releases to the best-known classics and everything in between.
WiFi is available for purchase onboard select North American, Caribbean and international flights.
Device charging: All aircraft are outfitted with power outlets at every Business Class seat and on select Economy Class seats. USB ports for charging are available at every seat.
WiFi fees: A number of pass options can be pre-purchased, or purchased onboard the plane. A one-hour pass starts from $6.50 CAD; a one-way pass is $21.00 CAD
Requesting a special meal when booking through Alternative Airlines: You can request a special meal easily at the time of booking, by selecting the special meal your require from the drop-down menu when entering your passenger information. If you would like you would like to add a special meal request to your reservation after making your online booking, this can be done by contacting our customer service team.
Meals for Economy passengers: On flights within North America and the Caribbean, a range of high quality light meals and snacks are available for purchase. On flights outside North America, Central America and the Caribbean, enjoy a complimentary hot meals, non-alcoholic beverages and tasty snacks.
Meals for Business passengers: Meals: Enjoy complimentary gourmet hot meals, served on quality dishware accompanied with a selection of wine, spirits, beverages and snacks.
Special meals are available in all classes (Economy and Business) on all flights where a meal service is offered. Order your special meal at least 24 hours before the first flight in your itinerary. Special meal options are as follows:
A variety of soft drinks and hot drinks are complimentary. Alcohol is also complimentary for Business passengers; onboard fares will apply for those travelling in Economy who would like to purchase alcohol.
Air Canada Rouge allows passengers to check in online as well as at the airport.
Passengers can check-in online from 24 hours before departure. Online check-in closes 45 minutes before departure for flights within Canada (20 minutes for flights departing from Toronto’s city airport, YTZ) and 60 minutes before departure for flights between Canada and other countries.

Children above 2 will need their own seats. On flights within Canada and the US, the fare is that of an adult’s fare. On international flights, a reduced children’s fare applies (for children between 2 and 12). To ensure you are seated with your child, it is always better to select them when you book your flight.
When checking-in, those with children under 6 can head to the Family Check-in counter (available at Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) and for domestic or international flights from Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) and Vancouver International Airport) - kids can also pick up a special fee luggage tag. On flights within North America, an activity book will be provided onboard; on international flights, tote bag filled with goodies will be offered!
One stroller for each child can be checked in for free, plus applicable baggage allowance.
Infants are below the age of 2. Within Canada, infants can sit on an adults lap for no charge; within the US, only taxes apply; on international flights, the fare is 10% that of an adult’s ticket. If a seat for the infant is preferred, children’s fares apply (see above).
Bassinets can be requested before flying - however, the airline will be unable to confirm availability until the time of the flight's departure.
One stroller for each infant can be checked in for free.
You'll need to let the airline know in advance of travel if you plan on travelling with your cat or dog in either the cabin or in the baggage compartment. If you have made your booking through Alternative Airlines, this can be done by contacting Alternative Airlines’ customer service team. It is recommended that this is done within 24 hours of completing your booking in case amendments need to be made.
In the hold: Passengers are welcome to bring a cat or small dog in the cabin, as long as it is small enough to comfortably sit in its carrier under the seat in front. The pet will be classed as your baggage allowance. A charge of $50 USD applies on each one-way flight within Canada/US and $100 USD on other international flights.
In the cabin: Pets are allowed to be flown in the hold, but restrictions apply: max weight is 45 kg/100 lb (pet and kennel combined) and max size is 292 cm (115 in) in linear dimensions. Fees apply: $105 USD on each one-way flight within Canada/US and $270 USD on other international flights.
Flying with Service and Emotional Support Animals
To travel with a dog as an emotional support animal, passengers must advise the airline 48 hour in advance of travel, and provide supporting documentation upon checking-in (which should be done an hour ahead of recommended check-in time).
