Sharp Airlines is a regional Australian airline that offers scheduled flights within Australia. The airline is based in South-Eastern Australia and flies across the Southern states within Australia, including Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania
Essendon Airport in Melbourne is one of the three main bases for the airline, the other two are Adelaide Airport and Launceston Airport, although, the airline doesn't actually fly regularly scheduled flights out of Adelaide anymore. The airline also flies charter flights, which is a part of its regular offering.
The airline was founded in 1990, initially launching out of Launceston Airport and later adding Essendon Airport and Adelaide Airport as hubs.
Sharp Airlines is a subsidiary of Sharp Aviation, which has its main maintenance base at Launceston Airport, Australia. The airline has built itself a reputation of one of the leading regional carriers in Australia's southeastern states and ;serves over 100 thousand passengers per year, as well as offering freight transport services.
Below is the carry-on baggage for both carry-on and checked baggage, which is included within the price of the ticket. If a passenger goes over the total amount, they'll be subject to an excess baggage fee, priced depending on how many extra kgs the passenger is over the limit.
Sharp Airlines passengers are allowed up to 6kg of carry-on luggage per person.
Carry-on baggage must fit the overhead lockers or under the seat. It cannot contain any dangerous goods or prohibited items when travelling. If the carry-on baggage's dimensions or weight exceed the limit, then it must be checked-in.
The checked baggage allowance for Sharp Airlines is 15kg with maximum dimensions of 75cm x 45cm x 50cm per person.
If a passenger has travelled in from an international destination and is flying on a connecting flight with Sharp Airlines, they'll receive 30kg of free baggage allowance. However, evidence of their international flight may be required upon check-in.
Because Sharp Airlines uses small planes that can only seat up to 20 passengers at a time, it only has room for one cabin class — the Economy Class. The Economy Class service is limited but ensures a relaxed, quick and safe journey. The airline has a professional cabin crew, who are on board to help with anything that passengers might need.
Seats are set out in a 1 x 1, 1 x 2 or 2 x 2 formation. Seats are slightly larger than what you'd expect from larger commercial airlines.
The airline doesn't have a built-in in-flight entertainment service. Passengers can bring their own devices for entertainment but please be aware that there's no WIFI network onboard, so any media must be downloaded pre-flight.
Sharp Airlines doesn't serve or offer any food and drink in-flight. Food and drink can be brought onto the plane by passengers as long as it is doesn't breach airport security guidelines and adheres to the carry-on baggage allowance limit.
Sharp Airlines passengers must check in at the airport since the airline doesn't offer online check in.
Sharp Airlines doesn't offer online check-in on any of its flights. To check-in, passengers must do so at the airport.
Airport check-in is available to all passengers and must be done within the check-in deadline times. If a passenger misses the check-in deadline, the airline has a right to refuse the passenger to board.
Airport check-in is open from 60 minutes before scheduled flight departure time and closes 30 minutes before. Passengers must be at the boarding gate at least 15 minutes before scheduled flight departure time, so it's very important that passengers leave themselves enough time between check-in and boarding.
To check-in at the airport, passengers must present the relevant travel documents (e-ticket/flight ticket and passport/photo ID) to one of the airline check-in agents.
The SharpFlyer Program is free for anyone to sign-up to. Those who are subscribed to the SharpFlyer Program will be emailed exclusively about special packages, seat discounts, island news and upcoming events at King Island and Flinders Island.
Please note: the SharpFlyer Program isn't a traditional frequent flyer program that rewards passengers for flying with them regularly but it's a great way to keep up with the latest updates from Sharp Airlines.
Sharp Airlines is currently totally independent and is not part of any airline alliance. It also doesn't have any active codeshare or interline agreements with any other airline at this time.

The airline has three bases: Essendon Fields Airport, Launceston Airport, and Adelaide Airport.
The main base is Essendon Fields Airport. The airport is the closest airport to Melbourne Australia. The public airport serves both commercial and private aviation flights. It is situated 13km from the centre of Melbourne. Two asphalt runways are currently in use at the airport. Sharp Airlines has used Essendon Airport as its hub since its early years of flying when it took over as the main hub from Launceston Airport.
Other airlines to operate out of the airport include Link Airways.
Sharp Airlines has a varied fleet with planes from manufacturers Fairchild, Cessna and Piper. Overall, the airline has around 15 planes within its fleet at any given time. Typically, it uses its Fairchild planes for scheduled flights, Cessna planes for charter flights and Piper planes for training and charter flights.
Sharp Airlines' cancellation policy differs depending on which fare is purchased. The airline offers two different fares — Promo fare and Tas Flex fare.
The Promo fare is restrictive. Passengers are unable to cancel their flight for a refund, change the date of travel or change the name on the ticket.
The Tas Flex fare allows for changes and cancellations. Passengers can cancel their flight for a refund, change the date of travel and change the name on the ticket as long as they cancel before 24 hours prior to departure.
At Alternative Airlines, you can purchase Cancellation Protection and make any Sharp Airlines completely refundable in the event that you need to cancel your flight, regardless of which fare you purchase. This means that even if you purchase the Promo fare, you'll be able to get a refund for your ticket if you need to cancel.
Cancellation Protection is available to add to your flight at checkout and will cover you for a refund if you need to cancel for any of the reasons set out in the terms and conditions. This covers reasons such as scheduled airline failure, mechanical breakdown, ticket theft, home emergency and many other circumstances.
