Flexible flights

Flexible flights, 'flexi flights' or a 'flexible fare' is an airline ticket that allows you to make changes to the date and time of your flight before departure. Flexi flights are great if — for whatever reason — you need to bring forward or delay the date you fly on.

You can book flexible flights at Alternative Airlines by checking the fare rules of the flight that you've selected. If the rules state that changes are permitted, you've selected a flexible flight. If the rules state that changes aren't permitted, then your flight is not flexible. We advise you to buy flexible flights in case you cannot make your flight and need to change the dates due to an unexpected circumstance.

Cancellation Protection features

Want to protect your flight with Cancellation Protection?

If you add Cancellation Protection to your booking, you'll be eligible for a full refund if you can't use your flight due to one of the emergency circumstances shown below. Cancellation Protection is available on all flights at Alternative Airlines. We recommend that you add Cancellation Protection to your booking for an added layer of protection. Simply pay a small fee to protect your money in case you're unable to attend your flight due to unforeseen circumstances. To see what you'll be covered by visiting our Cancellation Protection page.

How to Book flexible flights with Alternative Airline

You can find out whether your flight is a Flexi flight or not but checking the fare rules of your ticket. If it states that changes are permitted, then your flight is a Flexi flight. If it states that changes aren't permitted, then your flight is NOT a flexi flight.

Where can I find the fare rules for my flight on Alternative Airlines? — we hear you! You can find the fare rules for your specific flight within the Alternative Airlines booking process after you've selected your flight. Here's exactly what you need to do:

Search for flights

Using the search form at the top of the page enter the departure and arrival destinations alongside the dates you wish to travel, the number of passengers and cabin class. Then hit 'Search Flights'.

After you've decided where you want to fly and used our search, decide which flight you want to buy and click 'confirm selection'.

Select your flights

Once you've selected your preferred flight, you'll be taken to the page where you enter your contact details for the flight.

This is also the page where you can view the fare rules for your ticket. To view the free rules, click on the drop-down that reads 'these are the fare rules of the ticket that you have selected'.

View fare rules

After you've clicked the drop-down, you'll be able to see the fare rules and find out whether your flight is a flexible flight or not. Under the section 'can I change this ticket?' we'll tell you whether changes are permitted for your flight.

If changes are permitted — your flight is a flexible flight ✅
If changes aren't permitted — your flight is not a flexible flight ❌

In the example above, changes are not permitted. However, if it states that changes on the airline ticket are free of charge, this means that your flexible air ticket is fully flexible and is available to change without any fee from the airline. Select this fare and continue with the booking to buy your flexible flight.

Please be aware that to make changes to the date of your ticket, you are subject to a $96 administration fee charged by Alternative Airlines. However, if you buy the Alternative Airlines Premium Service Package for $26, we will waive the $96 administration fee, which will make your airline ticket fully flexible and available to change without any additional fees from the airline or with Alternative Airlines.

Always check our terms and conditions if you're unsure whether the flight you want to purchase is a flexible airline ticket.

Open-ended airline tickets

What is an open-ended airline ticket?

An open-ended airline ticket is a flight ticket which has no set date for the return leg of the flight, giving you the flexibility to return whenever you'd like without a set date. With an open-ended flight, you're only required to choose a date on the outbound leg of the flight and are free to stay as long as the expiration date is stated on the ticket.

At Alternative Airlines, we don't sell traditional open-ended airline tickets. However, your flexible airline ticket can be used as an open-ended airline ticket. Simply buy a flexible flight with a return date that is as far in the future as possible and then contact Alternative Airlines if you want to bring forward the return date of that flight.

Take a look at how far in advance you can book flights on each airline with Alternative Airlines.

Flexible Return Flights

You can easily search for flexible return flights at Alternative Airlines. Just complete a search, making sure to select 'return' instead of 'one-way' or 'multi-city'.

When flights are displayed, make sure to check the fare rules for both the outbound and return legs of your journey. This can be done by clicking on the drop-down list for fare rules, on the page after you've selected your flight.

If the fare rules state that changes are free or that changes can are permitted for a certain cost*, you can be confident that the ticket you're buying is a flexible ticket.

*Tickets that can be changed for a certain cost can still be changed, but you'll have to pay the stated amount in order for the airline to authorise the change.

However, with flexible flights, you can easily change the dates of the day you plan to travel.
