Avelo Airlines is a US carrier that flies scheduled passenger flights. The airline is headquartered in Houston, but has its hub airport at Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR). The airline flies domestically within the US, with a focus on serving the West Coast and East Coast. Avelo Airlines was previously known as Xtra Airways before it rebranded.
The airline launched flights in 2021 and was established by Andrew Levy, a former executive at both Allegiant Travel and United Airlines, who has flown with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to patent his new Houston-based airline. Avelo launched flights in April 2021, with its first flight traveling from Hollywood Burbank to Santa Rosa.
Avelo Airlines is an ultra-low-cost carrier, operating regularly scheduled domestic flights within America. With prices as low as possible and reliability as high as possible, the airline appeals to US travellers flying between within and between states. The airline focuses on serving routes within the country that aren't currently served by many — or any — other airlines.
Avelo Airlines serves American cities that are currently underserved with point-to-point flights. The airline operates using Boeing 737-800s, which have a capacity of 189 seats per plane and a one cabin set-up.
On the West Coast, Avelo mainly flies within California but also serves destinations in Arizona, Oregon and Washington. On the East Coast, the airline has a base at Tweed New Haven Airport, Connecticut, from which it flies to several destinations within the northeast and the southeast of the US.

Baggage Policy
As an ultra-low-cost airline, Avelo doesn't give free baggage allowances in order to make its basic ticket cheaper. If a passenger wants carry-on or checked baggage, it must be purchased as a flight add-on. Although carry-on and checked baggage is charged at a fee, passengers are allowed a 'personal item' to bring on the flight, free of charge.
Carry-on Baggage
Carry-on baggage must be purchased are an add-on. It must fit within the overhead locker on the plane and be no larger than 24" x 16" x 10".
Checked Baggage
Checked baggage must be purchased as an add-on. The maximum weight for carry-on baggage is 50 lbs (22.5 kg) and the maximum dimension is 62" (length + width + depth).
Personal Item
Each passenger is allowed to bring one small personal item with them on the flight. This personal item must be able to sit under the seat on the plane and cannot be larger than 14" x 9" x 9.5".
Cabin Classes
Avelo Airlines only has 1 cabin class, Economy.
Economy Class
Avelo flies with an Economy Class cabin and one cabin class set-up. The airline is an ultra-low-cost airline that offers a seat only. This means that anything extra for the flight must be purchased as an add-on. This includes add-ons such as carry-on and checked baggage, priority boarding and pre-selected seating.
Seats
Seats will be set out in a 3 x 3 configuration on all Avelo flights.
Check-In
Avelo Airlines allow passengers to check in at the airport or online. Depending on the method of check-in, passengers either have to print their boarding passes at home or at the airport.
Online Check-in
Online check-in is available through the Avelo Airlines online check-in page. Check-in is available 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure time. Passengers can check-in from any device with internet.
If checking-in on desktop or laptop, passengers must be able to print their own boarding pass.
If checking-in on mobile, passengers can bring confirmation of their check-in to the airline counter at the airport to print their boarding pass.
Airport Check-in
Passengers can also check-in at the airport of departure. This can be done by visiting the airline check-in desk at the airport. Passengers must make sure that they meet the check-in deadline. Avelo has the right to refuse boarding for any passenger that misses check-in deadline.

Avelo Airlines connects secondary destinations, with a focus on point-to-point routes that are underserved. The airline currently flies to a number of domestic destinations from Hollywood Burbank. Its route network is set to continue to expand further throughout 2022. At the moment, Avelo mainly flies within California but also serves destinations in Arizona, Massachusetts, Colorado, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Hub Airport
Burbank Airport
Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is an airport in Hollywood, California and the hub airport for Avelo Airlines. Although the airline is officially headquartered in Houston, Texas, Avelo has used Hollywood Burbank as its hub since it launched flights and it was the first airport that the airline flew from. Long-term, due to its point-to-point strategy to serve underserved routes, the airline will most likely have multiple hubs. And, while Hollywood Burbank might not always be classed as the airline's official hub, it's likely that the airport will be remembered as its first and main hub by many.
There are currently no other airlines based at the airport. Airlines that use the airport include American Eagle, JetBlue, Southwest, Delta Connection, United and more

Avelo continues East Coast expansion
First nonstop flight from Southern Connecticut to Southwest Florida
Avelo Airlines is continuing its East Coast expansion with the launch of a nonstop flight from Southern Connecticut to Fort Myers. As well as bringing more connectivity, the airline is also bringing affordable fares. It's the latest route to be added to the airline's growing network to/from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).

Avelo Airlines sets up East Coast hub in New Haven, Connecticut
Avelo Airlines has wasted no time in expanding across the US, announcing its arrival on the East Coast just a week after it flew its maiden flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport.
The airline will set up a new base at Tweed New Haven Airport, Connecticut and will offer flights throughout the northeast and southeast of the US. Although there are no official dates or routes announced yet, the airline is expected to launch flights between July and September 2021.

Avelo Airlines launches flights
Avelo Airlines launched flights on 28th April with service from Hollywood Burbank Airport to Santa Rosa. The Avelo Airlines maiden flight marked the first time a new US carrier has launched in over 15 years. The flight took place with paying customers, with many aviation enthusiasts on board, as well as CEO Andrew Levy.
The airline will continue to roll out new routes in the coming months, with 10 more destinations that it's scheduled to fly to, all connecting with Hollywood Burbank.

Avelo Airlines will launch late this month
Avelo Airlines has finally got a launch date! The US domestic carrier has already started selling flights from the end of April through to September. The airline's first flight will take place on 28th April with a service from Hollywood Burbank Airport aka Bob Hope Airport to Santa Rosa.
After that, the airline will roll out the rest of its schedule, flying from Hollywood Burbank to 10 more destinations: Arcata/Eureka, Ariz, Bend/Redmond, Bozeman, Calif, Colo, Eugene, Grand Junction, Medford, Mont, Ogden, Ore, Pasco, Phoenix/Mesa, Redding, Wash and Utah.

New airline being established in the U.S., following Coronavirus pandemic
Avelo Airlines is a new Houston-based airline being established in the U.S., despite the difficulties that Coronavirs has had in the travel industry. Avelo is not the only airline being established amidst the Coronavirus pandemic. Breeze Airways, another startup airline, seems to have a similar business model — both airlines will be focused on underserved point-to-point markets. The main difference is that Avelo is hoping to be ultra low cost, and hopes to reduce costs by acquiring used aircraft.
