About Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (IATA: DAC) formerly known as Dacca International Airport is a city-owned public / civil-military serves more than 9 million passengers each year. The airport opened in 1980 and serves cities within Bangladesh. The airport has an area of 1,981 acres and owns one runway.

The airport is the largest and most prominent international airport in Bangladesh. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is the hub base of the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines. In addition, it's also the hub base for the many private Bangladeshi airlines including Regent AirwaysNovoair and US-Bangla Airlines. Airlines that may use the airport as a hub in the future include Fly Dhaka and Air Astra.

Terminals

Main Terminal

The airport has of three major terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 for international flights within the same building, as well as Terminal 3 known as Domestic Terminal for domestic flights. The ground floor is used as the arrivals hall and the upper floor serves as the departures hall in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Both the arrivals and the departures are on the same floor in the one-storey domestic terminal. A VIP terminal is built only about 200 meters from the main gate which is used sometimes. In the future, a third international terminal is planned for construction.

How to get to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

By Road

There are a number of taxi companies that offer taxicab services at the airport. It's 6.6 km (4.1 miles) and takes only 24 minutes to downtown Dhaka by taxi from the airport.

By Public Transport

In front of the airport and on the other side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway there is an Airport Railway Station. The distance between the airport and the railway station is about 1.7 km (1 mile) which takes around 20 minutes to walk. Daily train services take place to and from downtown Dhaka.

By Rental Car

Just outside there is a car rental desk and the airport suggests that travellers “should be aware of cheats and high rates.
