City Airlines is a subsidiary airline of Lufthansa. Established in 2022, it aims to become a prominent player in the aviation industry. City Airlines obtained its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) in 2023. Its fleet currently consists of 5 narrow-body aircraft, predominantly featuring Airbus A320s transferred from Lufthansa Cityline. The airline is strategically planning dual bases in Munich and Frankfurt.
Lufthansa has emphasised that the new subsidiary airline aims to fill market gaps that aren't being addressed by its other subsidiary, Lufthansa Cityline.
