Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a low-cost carrier (LCC) and was founded in 2019. It is wholly-owned by Wizz Air, who also owns Wizz Air UK. This division is based at Abu Dhabi International Airport, with an aim to connect Abu Dhabi and Europe wit their efficient Airbus A320 family. The airline applied for their Air Operating Certificate (AOC) in March 2020 and started operations in June 2020 for services to Romania and Hungary.
The airline will initiate its operations to six destinations from Abu Dhabi to destinations in Europe such as Budapest and Bucharest. All flights are operated in the same livery as any other Wizz Air flights. This division only allows the airline to set a base at Abu Dhabi to compete with other airlines in the region.
Different baggage policies apply for passengers flying with Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
Each passenger is allowed to one free carry-on bag onboard. The carry-on baggage cannot exceed 40cm x 30cm x 20cm in three dimensions and no heavier than 10kg. This bag has to fit under the seat, items such as a laptop bag, a purse, a backpack and a camera.
Passengers purchased Wizz Priority will also be entitled to one trolley bag that is no larger than 55cm x 40cm x 23cm and no heavier than 10kg.
Wizz Air does not offer free checked baggage to any passenger, all checked baggage must be purchased.
However, passengers can check-in baggage from 10kg to up to 32kg depending on the baggage purchased. Each passenger can buy up to six checked bags.
Economy class is the only class available on Wizz Air Abu Dhabi as it is a low-cost carrier. However, there are three fare types available for passengers, including 'Wizz Plus & Flex', 'Wizz Go' and 'Basic'. Each individual fare family provides different products and services to passengers.
Basic: Free carry-on bag and online check-in two days before departure.
Wizz Go: Include everything from Basic fare and also free trolley bag, a 20kg check-in bag, free seat selection, etc.
Wizz Plus & Flex: Include everything from Wizz Go but a 32kg bag instead of 20 kg, and refund available.
Economy class of Wizz Air is on a 3 x 3 configuration with a seat pitch of 28" and width of 18", providing passengers with a decent amount of space in the cabin.
Both online and airport check-in is available for Wizz Air Abu Dhabi flights.
Any passengers purchased a seat can check-in between 30 days to three hours prior to scheduled departure time. Online check-in is only available 48 hours prior to departure otherwise.
Online check-in is available via the airline website and the airline app.
Passengers are advised to check-in online as airport check-in might be charged, unless online check-in is not available for the destinations listed below.
Airport check-in counters usually close 40 minutes before departure. However, some airports may have a different check-in deadline. Please visit the airline website for more information.
As of May 2020, the airline announced these routes for their Abu Dhabi division. They fly to six different destinations, which includes Sofia, Budapest, Pyrzowice, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Abu Dhabi. The Hungary and Romania services launched in June 2020 and the rest of the services in September.
