Ultra Air was a proposed airline in its early stages of startup. More information about the onboard experience, including class fares, ticket fares and baggage allowance was yet to be announced. Flights were expected to begin in the Summer of 2021.
In November 2020, Aeronáutica Civil (which is Colombia’s aviation regulator) announced the launch of a new low-cost carrier in the country — Ultra Air S.A.S. Aeronáutica Civil also stated that the carrier will have a hub in Rionegro Antioquia, a small city in the Colombian Andes.
Ultra Air was due to be launched by William Shaw, a famous businessman in Colombia who has extensive experience in aviation, including being one of the founders of the Colombian ultra-low-cost carrier Viva Air, a former CEO of Flycana in the Dominican Republic, a former member of the board at Green Africa Airways, as well as CEO of Mexican carrier Interjet.

The airline was due to be based in the city of Rionegro Antioquia, located in the subregion of Eastern Antioquia. The city is home to a large international airport (José María Córdova International Airport), which is likely to be the airport that Ultra Air will be based at. José María Córdova International Airport (IATA: MDE) is the second largest airport in Colombia and a primary hub for Viva Colombia. Other airlines to fly to the airport include: Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Albatros Airlines, Spirit Airlines, LATAM, Sarpa and Avianca.
It was stated that Ultra Air would have a fleet of Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 MAX 8. This would make the airline the first carrier to operate the Boeing 737 MAX 8 within the region.
