TAM Mercosur was an airline that operated from 1996 to 2008 and was based in Asuncion, Paraguay. It was the flag carrier and national airline of Paraguay during this time. TAM Mercosur was founded in 1996 under the name 'Lineas Aereas Paraguayas' until it was acquired in the same year by TAM Airlines, leading to its new name 'TAM Mercosur'.
TAM Mercosur primarily operated domestic routes within Paraguay as well as some international routes to neighbouring countries using a fleet of Fokker F-100s and Airbus A320s.
In 2008, due to a branding strategy, TAM Mercosur lost its distinct identity and adopted the branding of TAM Airlines. Its name was then changed to TAM Paraguay, followed by the merger with LAN Airlines to later become part of the LATAM Airlines group in 2012. Today, the airline operates as LATAM Airlines Paraguay and no longer uses TAM Mercosur branding.
TAM Mercousur had different baggage policies for carry-on baggage and checked baggage.
Passengers travelling with TAM Mercosur were permitted to bring one piece of carry-on baggage along with one personal item, such as a briefcase, camera bag, or small backpack, on board the aircraft. It is important to ensure that your carry-on items fit comfortably in the overhead bins or under the seat in front of you.
Please note that the dimensions of your carry-on baggage should not exceed a combined width, length, and height of 114 cm (including any wheels and handles).
Due to international health and safety regulations, checked baggage couldn't weigh more than 32kg and exceed the permitted size allowance.
TAM Mercosur now operates as LATAM Airlines and follows LATAM Airlines' check-in policies. Visit the LATAM Airlines page to find out more about LATAM's check in rules.
