Ontario International Airport (IATA: ONT) formerly know as Ontario Municipal Airport, is an international airport that serves 5.1 million passengers each year. The airport opened in 1923 and serves 19 destinations in the United States, Mexico and Taiwan. The airport has an area of 1,741 acres and owns two runways which run parallel to each other.

It is the third major airport in the area after Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and John Wayne Airport (SNA). The airport is located between Los Angeles and San Bernardino, about 38 miles (61 km) east of Downtown Los Angeles and 23 miles (37 km) west of Downtown San Bernardino.

Ontario International Airport is the primary hub for USP Airlines. Southwest Airlines in 2018 carried almost 57% of the airport's departing passengers. Daily the airport has 64 departures and arrivals.

The airport is located 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Downtown Ontario, California.

Lounges

  • Escape Lounge (Airside, near Gates 209/210)​​​​​​​: includes beverages, Wifi, TV, Air conditioning, Newspapers and Magazines.
  • USO Lounge / Military Lounge (Old Terminal 1): passengers can enjoy snacks, beverages, WiFi, TV, game room, reception room with pool table and air hockey, family and children's playroom area, library with books and magazines, restrooms, meeting centre as well as an outdoor patio area all for active military members serving in the US military and their families.

Runways and Terminals

Ontario International Airport currently has one runway and it's one of the busiest in the world. Ontario's runway 8L/26R is longer than three of the four runways at Los Angeles International Airport. It's often an alternative landing site for large aircraft that were intended for Los Angeles International Airport.


Terminal 1

Terminal 2 has 265,000 square feet and 12 gates numbering from 201 to 212. Terminal 2 is used by the following airlines: Alaska Airlines, China Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, and Volaris Airlines.


Terminal 2

Terminal 4 has 265,000 square feet and 14 gates numbered from 401 to 414. The only two airlines in Terminal 4 are American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

  • American Airlines - Operates direct flights to major hubs like Dallas/Fort Worth and Phoenix.
  • Frontier Airlines - Primary routes from ONT include Denver, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Seattle/Tacoma.

How to get to Ontario International Airport

By Road

A number of companies provide taxicab service at Ontario International Airport. From the airport to the Ontario city centre it only takes 5 minutes by taxi. There are drop-off and pick-up areas at the terminals and short and long-stay multi-storey car parks you can use to park your car at a cost.


By Public Transport

Trains such as Amtrak, Metrolinks and Omnitrains all offer transportation from and to the airport. In addition to this, there are many city buses stopping at Terminals 1 and 2 and also 24-hour shuttle services are available on-airport and off-airport.


By Rental Car

You can hire from a wide range of cars from car hire companies. All car rental pick-ups and drop-offs for rental car companies serving Ontario International Airport occur at the Rental Car Center.
