New York Stewart International Airport (IATA code: SWF) is a public and military airport, located in Orange County, New York, in the USA. It is also referred to as Stewart Field.

The airport is located in the Town of Newburgh and the Town of New Windsor, in the southern Hudson Valley. It is west of Newburgh and southwest of Poughkeepsie, about 60 miles (97 km) north of Manhattan, New York City.

Domestic routes from the airport include the following locations: Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach, Philadelphia, Punta Gorda, Orlando, and St. Pete-Clearwater-Tampa. JetBlue has the highest share in terms of the number of passengers arriving/departing from the airport (about 36%), followed by Allegiant (about 23%).


International Operations

Norwegian Air also operated an international route, flying from Dublin, in Ireland, to/from SWF, until mid-September 2019, when the airline ceased operating this route.

Facilities include:

  • Food and Drink: Options are limited, and include a Quiznos (Landside, on the 2nd Floor) and Euro Cafe (Airside, between Gates 3 and 4).
  • Shopping: 2 Hudson News stores are available (one Landside and one Airside), selling travel essentials, snacks, and last minute gifts. For Duty Free shopping, there is a Dufry outlet (2nd Level, across from Gate 3).
  • WiFi: WiFi is available throughout the terminal building.
  • ATMs: Located Landside
  • Baby Care: Family restrooms available both Airside and Landside. A Mamava Nursing Suite can be found Airside by Gate 4.
  • Currency Exchange: Landside, currency exchange facilities can be found, provided by Travelex
  • Information Desk: A Welcome Center is available Landside, with location informatoin and airport assistance.
  • TSA PreCheck: Available for qualifying passengers.

Runways and Terminals

New York Stewart International Airport has two asphalt runways and one helipad.

  • The east-west runway, 9–27, is 11,817 feet (3,602 m) long by 150 feet (46 m) wide.
  • The crosswind runway, 16–34, is 6,004 feet (1,830 m) long by 150 feet (46 m) wide.

Stewart Airport has one small terminal building, with facilities spread across two levels. Car rental booths and ATMs can be found on the baggage claim level of the terminal.

A plan currently exists to expand and develop Stewart over the next 20 years, with planned work including a new terminal, with a new train station to be built next to the new terminal, a 2,000-foot (610 m) extension of runway (16–34) and new taxiways.

Stewart International Airport is served by the following airlines:

  • Allegiant Air - Flies directly from Stewart Field to Fort Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach, Orlando/Sanford, Punta Gorda and St. Petersburg/Clearwater.
  • Breeze Airways - Operates direct flights from Stewart Field to Charleston, Orlando, Vero Beach and Fort Myers.
  • Play - Connects Reykjavík to New York.

How to get to New York Stewart International Airport

By Bus

Coach USA provides an express bus service, which operates between New York Stewart International Airport and New York City. Tickets can be purchased online or from the Coach USA ticket agent counter, which located near the terminal exit. Travel time by bus to New York City centre is approximately 90 minutes.


By Car Rental

A number of car hire companies have onsite facilities. Counters can be found on the main level, across from the security screening area. Companies include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National.


By Train

Metro North's Hudson Line connects New York Stewart Airport to New York City's Grand Central Terminal, via Beacon Station. From Stewart International Airport, passengers can access to Beacon Station via the Leprechaun Lines Newburgh Beacon Shuttle. The shuttle bus departs from outside the terminal building, between the hours of 9am and 8.25pm. The fare is $1 USD.
