London City Airport is an airport in London, England. It's the only airport located within the city of London and can be found 6 miles from the City of London, and very close to the popular business district of Canary Wharf.

The airport is younger than both London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports, with its first year of operation being 1988.

Despite not being a hub for any airlines, the airport operates regular services for a number of different airlines: Aer Lingus, TAP Air Portugal, British Airways, Alitalia, Flybe, KLM, LOT Polish Airlines, Air Antwerp, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, and Luxair.

London City Airport is located in Greater London, in the Royal Docks area of the Borough of Newham. The airport is easy to reach by public transport, or by road.

Runways and Terminals

London City Airport is known for having a short runway - 1,500m (4,900 ft). It also has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P728) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flight training.

There is one terminal building at London City Airport, which is small, however, this allows for pre-flight activities to be quick.

How to get to London City Airport

Tube - Docklands Light Railway (DLR)

Users of the tube can take the Docklands Light Railway to The London City Airport DLR station, which can be found in zone 3.


London Buses

Those who wish to take a bus to and from London City Airport will be pleased to know that the local services are the 473 to Stratford via Plaistow and North Woolwich, and 474 to Canning Town and Manor Park via Beckton and East Ham.


Boat - Thames Clippers

There is currently a new wharf being built nearby, meaning that there will soon be an MBNA Thames Clippers service serving the airport, too.
