Kansai International Airport (IATA: KIX) is an international airport which serves the Greater Osaka Area in Japan. The airport, which is locally known as Kankū, is built on a man-made island in the middle of the Osaka Bay. The airport was the third-busiest airport in 2017 for passenger traffic, with 27,886,816 passengers and 185,176 aircraft movements.
The island that the airport is built on was constructed beginning 1987, with the airport itself beginning construction in 1991. The airport was officially opened in 1994, and is a hub for many airlines such as ANA and JAL Japan Airlines.
KIX is located within the three municipalities of Izumisano, Sennan and Tajiri, all of which are located within the Osaka Prefecture in Japan. The airport's exact location can be found below on the interactive map:

The airport has two runways: Runway 06R/24L, measuring 3,500 meters (11,483 feet), with an asphalt/concrete surface; and Runway 06L/24R, also 3,500 meters (13,123 feet) in length, with an asphalt/concrete surface.
There are currently two terminals at KIX airport.
Terminal 1 is home to the traditional airline carriers. Its architecture is an ode to modernism, and was designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The airport is 4 stories high, with a roof shaped like an airfoil.
Terminal 2 is home to the low-cost carriers, attracting new LCCs with lower landing fees. The terminal is simpler in design than terminal 1, which was designed as such to reduce the costs of operations.

The airport is easily accessible via the Sky Gate Bridge R, which connects to Hanshin Expressways Route 5. At the airport there is plenty of parking.
The Kansai Airport Transportation Enterprise operates scheduled bus services from the city to the airport.
The airport is connected by the Sky Gate Bridge, with services operating by JR West and Nankai Electric Railway.
There is a high-speed ferry service which operated between Kobe Airport and KIX. It will take around 30 minutes, and began service in 2007.
