Halifax Stanfield International Airport (IATA: YHZ) is the eighth-busiest airport in Canada in terms of passenger traffic. It is based in the rural area of Goffs, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a hub airport for PAL Airlines, Air Canada Express, and Skylink Express. The airport was named after Robert Stanfield, 17th Premier of Nova Scotia and leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.

The airport first opened in 1960 and was originally Halifax International Airport. It was given the name Halifax Stanfield International Airport in 2007 following the death of Robert Stanfield.

The airport is located 16.5 miles (26.66 km) from the city of Halifax.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport currently has two runways which run perpendicular to each other. The longer runway is usually referred to as the "main runway" and the shorter as the "secondary runway".

The airport has one terminal, which is split into three levels: lower level, main level, and departures level. The terminal serves over 4 million passengers a year and has 32 gate positions.

By Road

It takes around 30 to 45 minutes (traffic-dependent) to drive to Halifax Stanfield International Airport from downtown Halifax. There is parking at the airport, alongside car rental.


By Bus

There is a MetroX bus service serving the airport, and this service takes around 55 minutes from central Halifax. There is also the Airport Express shuttle, which runs express services to and from destinations in Nova Scotia.


By Taxi

Travellers can access taxi and limousine services from the front of Domestic Arrivals, and the journey time between the airport and Halifax City will depend on traffic - however, it is usually between 30 and 90 minutes.
