Glasgow Airport, or Glasgow International Airport (IATA: GLA) is an international airport located just outside the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The airport is currently the second-busiest airport in Scotland, and the eighth-busiest airport in the UK, with 9.9 million passengers in 2017.

The airport was built and officially opened in 1966 by Queen Elizabeth II, with the first commercial flight being a British European Airways flight from Edinburgh. In the current day, the airport serves a number of destinations in Europe, North America and the Middle East with a number of airlines having bases at the airport including Loganair, TUI Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines, Jet2 and easyJet.

The airport is located in Paisley, Renfrewshire, which is found nearly 10 miles west of Glasgow city centre.

Airport runway

Runways and Terminals

Glasgow Airport features a single primary runway - runway 05/23. This runway is 2,665 meters (8,743 feet) in length and has a grooved asphalt surface.

The airport previously operated a secondary runway, designated 09/27, which has since been closed. The primary runway 05/23 accommodates all current flight operations at Glasgow Airport.

The airport has two terminals, the Main and Terminal 2, which are divided by the SkyHub with check-in, security and duty-free shopping. There are three piers; West, Central and East.

How to get to Glasgow Airport

By Road

The airport is located off the M8 via Junction 28 from the East, or Junction 29 when coming from the West. There is a range of parking solutions to suit everyone.


By Public Transport

There is a range of buses which connect the airport to the city of Glasgow and further afield. There is also the Paisley Gilmour Streer which connects the airport to the local rail services.


By Rental Car
