Fly Gangwon was a Korean low-cost carrier (LCC) that was founded in 2016 but commenced operations in November 2019. With just two months of operations, the LCC carried 23 thousand passengers in 2019. The business was established to help connect the Korean province of Gangwon-do to destinations across China, Japan, Taiwan, wider Korea and Southeast Asia. The airline hopes that this business venture will help to promote tourism in the future. It would love to increase the market share of the company, successfully competing with other carriers in the market. However, the company's core focus remains to be the safety of the passengers and ensuring all passengers enjoy the destinations that the airline serves. The airline operated a Boeing fleet with 2 B737-800 aircraft and operated from its hub at Yangyang International Airport.
Fly Gangwon had different baggage rules for carry-on and checked baggage.
All ticket types were allowed to bring 1 piece of cabin baggage on board free of charge. The airline states that the bag must have been able to fit under the seat in front of you and that its height and width should have been less than 115 cm, width and height should not exceed 115 cm or fit within the 55 cm, width 40 cm and height 20 cm parameters. The item of baggage should not have weighed more than 10 kg, after this, you would be charged an excess baggage fee.
Similarly, all passengers regardless of the airline's ticket type or destination were entitled to bring one checked bag with them. However, this must not have exceeded 203 cm in total dimensions and shouldn't weigh more than 15kg.
Passengers travelling with an infant had an additional allowance on a foldable stroller or an infant car seat on domestic flights. On international flights, infants could have an additional 10kg of checked baggage and a foldable stroller.
Musical instruments were also allowed to be carried as part of the allowed checked baggage allowance, however, these must have weighed less than 15 kg and not exceed 55 cm x 20 cm x 115 cm and be carried in a hard case.
Excess baggage would have been available to be purchased when booking Alternative Airlines. Please note that any baggage heavier than 32 kg was not accepted by the airline. If you have any queries, please contact our customer service team. If you wished to travel with any sporting equipment then this came at an additional cost of 10,000 KRW, golf clubs weren't included as they are considered part of the allocated luggage allowance.
As the airline operated within the low-cost business model, there was only an Economy Class product on offer by the airline. However, there were three different fare types passengers could choose from on their flights. These are 'Super Fly', 'Smart Fly' and Standard Fly'. Each ticket type was permitted to carry 1 cabin bag plus 1 checked case. However, the fare types differed by additional charges for select services.
Similar to other low-cost carriers, the airline only offered one cabin class on their aircraft, economy class. The Economy Class offered comfortable seating in 3 x 3 rows with friendly and welcoming flight attendants onboard. Complimentary food and drinks weren't provided, however, there was an onboard bar service for you to purchase from during the flight.
Fly Gangwon didn't offer any complimentary inflight entertainment or wifi facilities. They did however provide inflight reading materials such as a magazine. We recommended that you brought your own entertainment for the duration of the flight.
A complimentary meal service wasn't provided, however, the airline offered an onboard bar for you to purchase food and drinks throughout the flight. There was a range of snacks, pot noodles, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available from the Cafe 4V service. For more information and to view the full menu please visit the airline website.
Fly Gangwon passengers could check in online prior to the flight departure.
Domestic Flights: Online check-in opened from 24 hours to one hour before the scheduled departure time.
International Flights: Online check-in opened from 24 hours to two hours before the scheduled departure time.
Online check-in could have been done via the airline website. It was important that you prepared your e-ticket and your passport details for check-in. If you checked-in online and were travelling with cabin baggage only then you were able to head straight to security upon arrival at the airport. If you were travelling with checked luggage then you could have headed to one of the airline's bag drop desks.
Airport check-in facilities were available for all Fly Gangwon flights. On domestic Korean services, check-in counters opened 90 minutes before departure and closed 20 minutes before scheduled departure time. If travelling on one of the airlines international routes then passengers would have arrived at the airport at least 1 hour before departure. Check-in desks opened 2hr 30 minutes before the scheduled departure, on flights from Clark, this opened 3 hours before. Taiwan and Clark services closed 50 minutes before departure.
If you arrived late for check-in then the airline reserves the right to deny boarding.

As of January 2022, the airline only operated services across Korea.
