What is Global Entry?
Global Entry is a program which allows fast track clearance through immigration and customs for pre-approved selected travellers who are deemed low-risk. The program is operated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and is in operation in the United States at selected airports.
Benefits of Global Entry include speeding up travellers, allowing them to get on to their final destination. This is facilitated through reduced wait time and no processing lines. However, it is important to note that even passengers part of the Global Entry program can be selected for further examination when entering the US.
It works by passengers applying to the Global Entry program, where they must undergo a rigorous background check and in-person interview, before being pre-approved. When arriving at their destination airport, passengers can use a Global Entry Kiosk, where passengers who have previously registered to the program present their passport or US resident card and fingerprint. After completing the customs declaration, passengers are issued a receipt and can continue through the airport to baggage claim and the exit.

How to apply for global entry?
- Before you apply, check that you are eligible for Global Entry by reading the qualifying criteria below.
- You must then create an account with the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Each person who requires Global Entry must create their own TTP account, regardless of their age.
- Once logged in to your TTP account, complete the application. The $100 fee will be required at this stage.
- Once your application and payment has been received, the US Customs and Border Protection will review your application and, if approved, you will be invited to schedule an interview at a Global Entry Enrolment Centre. Each applicant must schedule an individual interview, but people under 19 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
- At the interview, travellers must bring with them a valid passport and one other form of ID, such as a driving license or ID card. Passengers who are a lawful permanent resident must also present their machine readable permanent resident card.
- Once the application has been approved and travellers ready to travel, they must arrive at their destination airport and head to the Global Entry Kiosk with their passport or US resident card and complete a customs declaration.
- Once a receipt has been printed, travellers are free to move on to the baggage reclaim, or exit the airport.
Who qualifies for Global Entry?
Citizens of the U.S. and U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents are eligible for global entry, along with citizens of the following countries:
- Argentina
- India
- Colombia
- United Kingdom
- Germany
- Panama
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Switzerland
- Taiwan
- Mexican nationals
There is no age minimum age to be part of the Global Entry program. However, if travellers are under the age of 18, they have the consent of their parent or legal guardian to apply and participate in Global Entry.
Sometimes, travellers are denied the right to Global Entry. This may be to a number of reasons, including:
- Travellers who have lied, or provided incomplete information on the application form.
- Travellers who have been convicted of a criminal offense, have pending criminal charges, or outstanding warrants. Please note this rule includes driving under the influence.
- Travellers have violated customs, immigration, agricultural regulations or laws in ANY country.
- Travellers who are the subject of an investigation by a federal, state or local law enforcement agency.
- Travellers who are not permitted entry into the US due to immigration regulations. This includes travellers with approved waivers of inadmissibility or parole documents.
- Travellers who can not prove or convince the CBP of their low-risk status.

Global Entry FAQs
What is the difference between Global Entry and TSA Precheck?
TSA Precheck is a service in which you can fast track your security screening process for flights departing airports in the United States. Global Entry is a fast track of the customs and immigrations process through doing it in advance with applications and interviews. When purchasing Global Entry for a price of $100, it includes the price of TSA Precheck. TSA Precheck costs $85 on its own. You can read more about TSA Precheck here.
Do I need multiple interview appointments if I am travelling with my family?
Each member of the family will need their own separate appointment time. On the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website on the Global Entry schedule appointment section, you can use the filter to select the number of appointments needed. Each person will then have to log into their own account and attend their own interview. People under the age of 18 must be accompanied to the interview by their parent or legal guardian. Do I need to declare food items or other goods when using the Global Entry kiosk?
