El Paso International Airport (ELP) is an international airport located in El Paso, Texas. In 2018, the airport handled 3,260,556 passengers and 86,016 aircraft operations, making it the largest civil airport in West Texas and southern New Mexico.

The airport was first built in 1929 where it was named Standard Airport and was used for transcontinental airmail services. The airport was named to its current form in 1936, where it became El Paso International Airport.

The airport is located 6km northeast of downtown El Paso, El Paso County, Texas.

Runways and Terminals

El Paso International Airport features three runways:

  • Runway 4/22: 12,020 feet (3,664 meters) in length, 150 feet (46 meters) wide, with an asphalt/concrete grooved surface.
  • Runway 8R/26L: 9,025 feet (2,751 meters) long, 150 feet (46 meters) wide, also featuring an asphalt/concrete grooved surface.
  • Runway 8L/26R: 5,499 feet (1,676 meters) in length, 75 feet (23 meters) wide, with a concrete grooved surface.

These runways accommodate a diverse range of aircraft operations, including commercial, general aviation, and military flights.


The Main Terminal

There is only one terminal at this airport which is small with two levels and two concourses (East and West). Gates A1-A4 are found in the West Concourse, with Gates B1-B11 being located in the East Concourse, making 15 total gates in the airport. The upper level of the terminal contains all the gates, with the lower level containing ticketing, baggage claim, car rental companies and the main entrance.

By Road

You can access the airport via Convair Road, which has 4 lanes. The two left lanes are for commercial vehicles, and the two right lanes can be used to pick up and drop off passengers.


By Public Transport

There are local bus services (Routes 33 and 50) which serve the El Paso Airport and the local area.
