Queen Street in Cockburn Town, Turks and Caicos

Discover Cockburn Town

Cockburn Town is the capital of Grand Turk Island, the largest of the Turks and Caicos Islands. It's a small, historic settlement with a population of around 3,700 people all enjoying a laid-back Caribbean way of life and atmosphere.

Life moves at a slower pace here compared to the more crowded, lively island of Providenciales, but there's still plenty to see and do. Once you reach Cockburn Town, you'll notice narrow streets lined with 18th and 19th-century Bermudian-style buildings painted in bright colours.

The town itself sits by the beach so there's plenty of opportunity to relax on the sand and go for a swim, and you'll also find several restaurants and bars along the waterfront if you're feeling peckish.

It can be challenging to reach Cockburn Town by air as there are multiple flights involved. The best route is via Providenciales which is easily reachable from many major US cities including New York, Chicago and Atlanta.

The peak tourist season is from December to February as there is very little rain and lots of sunshine, but if you want to avoid the tourist crowds, we recommend visiting from March to May or September to November - ticket prices will be lower and the weather is decent with a slightly higher chance of rain.
