Basse-Terre is a city located on Basse-Terre Island, the western half of Guadeloupe. It's the capital and prefecture of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe, making it the centre of Government in the country.

The city itself is quite historic, with a population of around 12,000 people. Founded in 1643, it has a rich French colonial influence that can be seen in the architecture lining its streets.
