Highlights of the monastery include Katoghike Church, the sacred springs and the khachkars (cross-stones). Katoghike Church is the main church in the complex - it was built in 1215 and was a holy site before Christianity existed.

Lake Sevan

Lake Sevan is the largest freshwater lake in Armenia. It's situated at an altitude of around 1,900 metres above sea level, making it one of the world's largest high-altitude lakes. The 'Blue Pearl of Armenia' supplies around 90% of the country's fish, playing a crucial role in Armenia's economy.

When visiting Lake Sevan, you won't want to miss out on Sevanavank Monastery, situated on the northern side of the lake. It offers brilliant panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. You'll also want to enjoy the lake's beaches, ideal for swimming, sunbathing, jet skiing, windsurfing and sailing. Other nearby points of interest include Noratus Cemetery and Hayravank Monastery.

Tatev Monastery and Wings of Tatev

Tatev Monastery is a 9th-century monastery perched on a plateau that overlooks the Vorotan River Gorge in Armenia's Syunik Province. It's historically known for being a religious and academic hub and was home to the University of Tatev in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Within the monastery complex, you'll find Saints Paul and Peter Church, Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church, and the Church of the Holy Mother of God. Each church highlights Armenia's medieval architecture. You can see the complex at its best via the Wings of Tatev, a cable car ride that soars over the Vorotan River Gorge.

To reach the monastery, you'll need to ride the Wings of Tatev cable car from the village of Halidzor. This village isn't close to Yerevan, so we recommend booking accommodation in or near Halidzor for easier access to Tatev Monastery.
