Avianca Express is a Colombian scheduled airline and the regional subsidiary of Colombia's national carrier, Avianca. The airline offers point-to-point flights, rather than flying from a hub airport. However, El Dorado International (BOG) is where the airline mainly bases its fleet. Avianca Express offers domestic flights throughout Colombia, flying to over 10 different destinations within the country.
The airline was founded in 2018, going by its legal name, Regional Express Américas. It launched flights in 2019 flying from Bogotá to a number of different Colombian cities, including Yopal, Neiva, Ibagué, Popayán and more. In 2020, the airline adopted the Avianca Express name.
Avianca Express was created by its parent airline, Avianca, with the goal to serve regional destinations so that the mainline airline can focus on larger international routes.
Avianca Express has a different baggage policy for carry-on and checked baggage.
Passengers are given a free carry-on baggage allowance of one piece weighing a maximum of 10 kg. In addition to this, passengers may bring one personal item such as a small backpack, laptop and bag, purse or any other item of equivalent size.
The airline doesn't offer a free checked baggage allowance. However, checked baggage is available to pre-book at the time of booking through the Alternative Airlines website.
Avianca Express only flies with an Economy Class cabin. The cabin is clean, comfortable and has a friendly and attentive cabin crew who are dedicated to assisting and helping passengers with anything that they might need throughout the flight.
Seats are set out in a 2 x 2 formation and give 17" (43 cm) of width and 30" (76 cm) of pitch.
Passengers flying with Avianca Express can either check-in online before they arrive at the airport, or alternatively, check-in once they arrive at the airport.
Online check-in can be completed by visiting the Avianca online check-in page and entering the flight booking code and flight date of departure. Online check-in opens 24 hours before the flight departs.
Passengers can also check-in at the airport by visiting one of the airline check-in desks with their flight and travel documents. Airport check-in closes 45 minutes before scheduled flight departure time, so it's recommended that passengers arrive around two hours before flight departure time to allow enough time to pass through the airport and board the flight in time.
Passengers can order food and drink from the airline cabin crew once in-flight. The airline has a range of light snacks, soft, alcoholic and hot drinks on offer.
The airline flies to several destinations across Colombia, including to Bogotá, Cartagena, Armenia, Medellín, Santa Marta, Villavicencio and more.
Wingo, Copa Airlines Colombia and Viva Air Colombia are all great alternatives to Avianca Express.
